Mountains and forest

Kilimanjaro is the famous multi-day ascent; Meru and the Usambaras are the quieter trails. Chimps are a western-forest story — Gombe and Mahale — not a northern-circuit afternoon.

Coast and cities

Zanzibar is spice, Stone Town and reef, not only a beach transfer. Dar, Arusha and Mwanza have food, music and contemporary life the postcard leaves out. Eat first meals with people who live there.
